Hello everyone my name is Matt Yeseta. I was the committee chair for the 2007-2008 float called Gaurdians of Harmony, which won the Fantasy award. I have since graduated and have moved on to doing things with the Alumni Chapter.
I was wondering if people could tell me what they thought about last years Deco week. What you liked, what you didnt like. Any new ideas that you had would be great as well. We would like to take your comments and get a better idea of what we can do this year to make Deco week better.
Howdy. I'm Claude Felizardo. I'm the current editor of the PinkLine newsletter (9th year) and of this website and the previous official one and the unofficial one before that. I was a club officer for the '86 float, "Bubble Trouble" and animation computer programmer from around '85 to '87. I've been helping out at the deco check-in tent for a number of years.
One thing I miss from previous years is the deco badge. The different color wrist bands worked pretty well but I think a lot of people miss the deco badge. I understand it's a cost issue and doesn't serve as well as the wrist bands for a bunch of reasons but it was something you could take home with you and add to your collection at home. For the friends and relatives that I got to come over and help, it was a nice little souvenir.
Oh, another thing that has always bugged me is that Tournament should provide a map of all of the float builders so that when people come by looking for a specific group, we could direct them instead of guessing.
My name is Janet Klotz and I am an alumni of Pomona. I have decorated rose floats for 14 years and this is my 5th year with Cal Poly Universities.
One thing I think needs to be done is a "Keep Clear" area where there is a cross-over area between the deco trailer and the float. It always seems that there is a huge group standing in front of the enterance to the float and people are carrying huge boxes of flowers and have to ask "EXCUSE ME!!!" to get by.
I also miss the badges! Loved the collection aspect of them, but understand the cost factor.
Hello Everyone. My name is Dave Mark. My daughter and I helped decorate the 2008 and 2009 floats. Last year, it was very cold. We were assigned the task of cleaning and filling up the vials. After three hours of cleaning and filling up vials, we move to peeling wood barks. This year, we noticed they placed the vials upright by punching holes in cardboard boxes. That will make it easier to place the flowers in the vials.
This year, we were assigned the task in applying chili peppers on the chairs of the ferris wheel. After we were done, we glued white lima beans on the chairs lining to give them a lighted look. It would be helpful if they blow up pictures detailing areas/components of the float.
2009 is a great float. Best wishes on winning another trophy.
